Facebook launches Blockchain research group
David Marcus, the Facebook Messenger application manager, has just announced the creation of a research group dedicated to the Blockchain in order to take advantage of this technology for the social network.
Last January, Mark Zuckerberg timidly mentioned the Blockchain. A few weeks later, David Marcus announced that the Cryptocurrency were not yet ready to be used on Facebook and that only time and their maturity could change the game. Followed by a more severe moderation of Cryptocurrency ads on Facebook, especially those related to ICOs.
Today, David Marcus just announced in a post on his Facebook profile that he is leaving the Messenger team to join a new Blockchain search group in order to take advantage of the best of this technology for the Facebook platform.
Marcus was President of Paypal from 2012 to 2014 and has extensive experience in online payment. He then joined Facebook to lead the Messenger team and develop the application. After 4 years of hard work on this product and a real success (more than 1.4 billion users registered in 2017), it is time for him to look at the Blockchain.
In addition to his work at Facebook, Marcus has been a member of Coinbase’s Board of Directors since December 2017.
